Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to join our growing construction company. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles and experience working in the construction industry. This role will be responsible for managing financial transactions, ensuring accurate record-keeping, and supporting the financial operations of the company. This position starts as a 30-Day Assignment but has potential to be a longer-term assignment.
Responsibilities:
- Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Process and manage vendor invoices, contractor payments, and client billings.
- Reconcile accounts to ensure timely and accurate payments.
- Follow up on overdue payments and maintain client and vendor relationships.
- Job Costing & Billing:
- Track project costs (materials, labor, subcontractors, etc.) and ensure they align with the project budgets.
- Prepare and send progress billings to clients and ensure timely payment.
- Reconcile project costs with budgeted expenses to maintain financial accuracy.
- General Ledger Maintenance:
- Record and maintain all company transactions in the general ledger.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with financial standards and regulations.
- Bank Reconciliations:
- Reconcile company bank accounts regularly to ensure accurate financial records.
- Payroll Support:
- Process payroll and ensure proper withholding for taxes, benefits, and deductions.
- Work with HR or external payroll providers to ensure accuracy.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Generate reports to track the financial performance of ongoing projects and the overall business.
- Provide financial data to management for decision-making.
- Tax Compliance:
- Assist with preparation of sales tax returns, contractor payments, and other applicable taxes.
- Coordinate with external accountants for tax filings and audits.
- Document Organization & Filing:
- Maintain organized records of contracts, invoices, receipts, and other financial documents.
- Ensure documents are stored in compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with project managers, field staff, and the finance team to ensure smooth operations.
- Address any financial discrepancies and assist in resolving issues.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a bookkeeper, accountant, or similar role within the construction industry is preferred.
- Proficient in accounting software preferably with Foundation software.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, bookkeeping procedures, and job costing.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Knowledge of tax regulations and financial compliance within the construction industry is a plus.
Education:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field is preferred or at least 8 years of experience.
Work Environment:
Hours - 8am to 4:30pm
