Position Description
We have a unique opportunity for candidates to provide on-call (same day or with notice) reader/scribe services for individuals with visual or cognitive impairments within the Maryland District and Circuit Court systems. These individuals may need assistance with written materials, including court documents, and may request that someone read documents to them during court proceedings. Individuals who have visual impairments or are blind may use hand-held devices to take notes, but if they do not, the reader may also serve as a scribe. Individuals with visual impairments or who are blind may also require the reader/scribe to verbally describe (visually interpret) visual evidence or convey what is happening in the courtroom.
A reader/scribe (or visual interpreter) must be careful not to make decisions for or give advice to the person requesting assistance.
